A rare set of photographs of the Gallipoli battlefields with annotations on the rear. One photo shows British soldiers in a front line trench posing for the photo. On the rear it says 'View of our trench. Men in photo belong to Sussex Regt- we- The Sherwood Forresters, relieved them at the end of October. At this point Turkish trenches were about 350 yards away'. The next photo is of Three British soldiers with two Turkish soldiers. On the back it says 'Turkish officer- prisoners- being interrogated- Sulva'. The next photo is og a group of British soldiers with Turkish prisoners. On the reverse it says 'a few Turkish prisoners guarded by Tommies'. The next photo is of a landscape taken from some hights and on the back it says 'a good general view of Sulva Bay showing rough view where all the troops landed. Hills in distance held by enemy, who could therefore shell any part of our ground. Just over the hills is the Narrows'. Finally, the last photo is again of a landscape taken from a high feature. On the rear it says 'Small shells bursting - this was at Cape Helles the country of Sulva was nothing ??? so fertile as this'.
These photos have been printed onto a thick card and as far as I know are unpublished. They are roughly the size of a postcard
