This stunning helmet was found in a wood around Thiepval (Somme) around the 1980s by a local collector. The helmet is in great solid shape with no rust holes at all. On both the inside and outside there is still remains of paint. On the outside there is green, black and brown/ tan paint visible around the helmet with the top being most prominent. This suggests that the helmet was lost during the fighting of 1918 when German soldiers applied camouflage paint to their helmets. In the inside of the helmet their is a faint black painted name to the rear 'Schimann' which is a nice personal touch and which is also rare to see on relic helmets. In the last few years, good quality relic Stelhelms have been almost impossible to find and this is a lovely and untouched example oozing with history. I guarantee there is not a helmet for sale currently that is like this one!
